Living With Gerd By Reggie Dunn, Thu Dec 8th
Hello, My name is Reggie and I suffer from acid reflux, alsoknown as G.E.R.D., which stands for Gastroesophageal RefluxDisease. I was offically diagnosed with it when I was in my mid20's, but was suffering from it long before that. Around mymid-teens, it seemed that I was constantly getting heartburn ifI ate certain foods. As I got older and entered college, it gotto the point where everything gave me heartburn. I would buyrolaids and tums in bulk and pop them like candy. I had to havethem with me everywhere I went. Eventually, I finally broke downand went to see my family doctor about the problem. Initially,he suggested certain food items to stay away from whichbasically amounted to everything that I enjoyed and suggested tolimit my alcohol consumption and told me to take some over thecounter medicine that was a little stronger than rolaids (andalso a "little" more expensive). Needless to say, the problemcontinued , so I was then referred to a gastrologist who ransome tests and diagnosed me with acid reflux. He perscribed amedication known as prilosec, which is a time release
pill thatI take religously every morning the minute I wake up. I've beentaking the medication for about 7 years now and it has been 7years of no heartburn. I basically eat and drink anything I wantand as long as I take my pill I do not get heartburn. On therare occation I forget, believe me, I remember really fast. Sobasically, it appears I will need to be on this medication forthe rest of my life, but it is worth it to me to stay heartburnfree. So basically, my advice to anyone reading this and canrelate to this problem - go get it checked out and stop livingwith the agony of heartburn.
