What is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is a complicated disorder that most doctors do not understand. It is often times called the "invisible disease".  It is a condition that causes pain throughout the body. Often times, there are no reasons as to why this is happening. People that cannot find other diagnoses that have explanations are often times given this one.

What Causes It?

Doctors still have not found out what causes Fibromyalgia. There are a lot of mysteries that surround it. However, there are a few things that they do know. The widespread pain that is caused is chronic. This means that it lasts longer than 3 months. In fact, most people diagnosed with this are in pain for the rest of their lives. They suffer from fatigue due to the fact that the pain has a negative impact on their sleep.

Can it come with Other Issues?

This disorder has been known to go hand in hand with other problems such as irritable bowel syndrome and migraines. There are many other illnesses that it has been known to work alongside with. Due to this, it can be hard to diagnose.

Who is affected by Fibromyalgia?

The majority of those that are diagnosed with this issue are women that are older than thirty-five years old. There are even cases in children that range from the ages of eleven to fifteen that have been known to be diagnosed with this. If someone in your family has been diagnosed with it, it could increase the chances of acquiring it.

People with autoimmune disorders often times suffer from Fibromyalgia, as well. Many people that have lupus suffer from widespread pain, for example. There is not much one can do about it, besides work with a doctor to figure out how to lessen the pain issues. If this impacts one's life, there are therapists out there that can help sufferers figure out how to live with it and still be functional.
