Prempro Breast Cancer Risks

While Prempro may cure your hot flashes, it may also debilitateor kill you from ovarian cancer, breast cancer, endometrialcancer, and stroke. Since 1995, millions of women have confidently taken Prempro, aleading hormone replacement therapy drug, prescribed to treatpostmenopausal hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms. However, a recent major study concludes that long-term use ofPrempro has significantly increased the risk of stroke, bloodclots, Prempro ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, and breastcancer, while maximizing the risk for dementia and Alzheimer’sdisease. Evidence has revealed that Prempro and other estrogenprogestin combinations can actually harm perfectly healthy women.
These results were found in the nation's largest hormonereplacement study and were so alarming that the NationalInstitute
of Health (NIH) prematurely canceled the study citingrisk to the participants. As a result the study is suggestingthat many of the women who use Prempro and other estrogen andprogestin combinations should quit and talk to their doctorsabout Prempro alternatives. Prempro is manufactured by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. In 2001Prempro accounted for approximately $890 million of thecompany's $13.9 billion in sales.
