All About Plastic Surgery By Jeff Lakie, Thu Dec 8th
The has become a multi-million dollar one, asboth men and women employ more and more extreme tools in orderto reach the ever more ubiquitous image of perfection thattorments us. It sometimes seems as though the tiny people ofHollywood have been constructed entirely out of plastic in aconspiracy to make the rest of us feel like ogres. And in aworld where beauty is a highly rated currency, it is littlewonder that many of us succumb. And while is not a bad thing in and of itself,it is still an invasive procedure as dangerous as any other typeof surgery, and should not be undertaken lightly. But if thegrowing number of people who choose surgery every year isanything to go by, then surgery is becoming the quick fix of themasses. But if anything needs fixing, surely it is a society wherepeople undergo risky surgery in order to feel okay aboutthemselves. We pride ourselves on the advancements we make as asociety every moment, and while attractiveness has historicallyalways been of value, is it not now time that we rebel againstthe status of beauty as the primary currency in our society?
Butbeauty is more powerful that ever, and combined with ourenormous technological knowledge, we are at a point when we havethe tools to look almost exactly as we wish.
Perhaps the world of 'The Stepford Wives' is really not so veryfar away. As people make appointments daily for surgery thatwill make them look like someone else, we are at risk of losingour individuality to a cult that simply wants us all the same. They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it seemsthat as time progresses, we are all beginning to see through oneblighted eye. What will we do once we are all finally beautiful?Perhaps then we will begin to look a little deeper. Or perhapswe our notion of beauty will change, as it has done countlesstime through history, and we will all be left to start fromscratch again About the author:Jeff Lakie is the founder of Plastic Surgery Resources a website providing informationon cosmetic surgery
