This year For Every Body donated 1,500 candles tohospitals in Utah at the beginning of October for Breast CancerAwareness Month. Each woman who receives a mammogram throughoutthe month will receive a free candle. Each of the pink, nineounce candles is accompanied by a postcard with facts aboutbreast cancer. The plumeria scented candle is called "Hope for a Cure." It wascreated in 1999 to support the crusade against breast cancer. Itis sold in several different retail locations throughout theUnited States. A portion of all proceeds go toward breast cancerresearch. According to Becky Lunceford, owner and founder of For EveryBody, awareness is something all women should bemore informed about. "I have been touched by the stories I've heard from some of ouremployees
who had someone in their families who have sufferedfrom breast cancer," Lunceford said. "I feel very strongly aboutcreating better awareness in our community and nationwide on howto detect early." According to the National Alliance of Breast CancerOrganization, is the most common form of canceramong women in the United States and every woman is at risk. Ifthe cancer is detected early, it can be treated. Mammographyscreening cannot prevent or cure breast cancer, but it maydiscover before the symptoms occur.
